Which documents do you already have?
Select everything you currently have access to. We will organize them into Ready, Missing, and Review sections.
Protect your privacy
Do not upload your SIN card, full bank account number, passwords, or private medical information. This tool only tracks which documents you have; it does not store or verify them.
How it works
Three simple steps
1Tick what you already have
Go through the standard list of Ontario rental documents and select the ones ready to submit.
2See your Ready / Review / Missing split
The tool organizes your documents into three colour-coded columns so you know exactly what to focus on next.
3Prepare or update the gaps
Refresh pay stubs, request an updated employment letter, or reach out to references, then rerun the checklist.
Benefits
Why renters & buyers use it
- Never lose a rental because a document was missing on viewing day.
- Understand which items are commonly requested by GTA landlords.
- Track which documents need to be renewed or refreshed.
- Reduce back-and-forth with landlords, agents and property managers.
- Completely private, the checklist runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
Educational context
How this works in Ontario
Ontario landlords typically request government photo ID, an employment letter, recent pay stubs, a credit report, proof of funds, and references. Some also ask for a guarantor or tenant introduction letter, particularly for newcomers or students without Canadian rental history.
What your result means
Read your result carefully
The Ready / Review / Missing split is educational only. It does not verify document authenticity, screen tenants, or make an approval decision. Landlords decide who to rent to based on their own criteria within Ontario law.

Answers
Frequently asked questions
Q.Is this checklist a guarantee my application will be accepted?
No. It helps you organize documents Ontario landlords commonly request. It is not an approval, guarantee, or legal validity check.
Q.Should I upload sensitive documents to this website?
No. Do not upload your SIN card, full bank account number, passwords or private medical information. This tool only tracks which documents you have.
Q.What does the Review section mean?
Review means you have the document but it may need to be updated or verified, for example, pay stubs and credit reports should be recent.
Q.Do the same documents apply across the GTA?
Yes, the core documents are similar province-wide. Individual landlords may request additional items.
Q.Do I need a Canadian credit report?
It is commonly requested but not always required. Newcomers can strengthen an application with a guarantor, larger deposit, or an introduction letter.
Q.Is the checklist saved between visits?
No. It resets on refresh so nothing personal is stored.
Q.Is there a fee?
No. The checklist is 100% free.
Q.Which documents are most important for newcomers?
Government-issued ID, an employment or offer letter, proof of funds, and references. A tenant introduction letter can help fill gaps if you don't yet have Canadian credit.
Q.Can I use the checklist for a co-signer or guarantor?
Yes. If a guarantor will support your application, they'll typically be asked for the same documents (ID, income proof, credit) as the primary applicant.
Q.Does the checklist work across the GTA, Mississauga, Toronto, Brampton?
Yes. The core documents Ontario landlords request are consistent across Mississauga, Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, Brampton, Oakville and Vaughan.
